KEY PROJECT ELEMENTS

Chasetown Civil Engineering proudly delivered a critical infrastructure project in partnership with Lovell Partnerships and the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), supporting the construction of 917 military homes across three barracks. This JCT contract involved constructing 9.8km of carriageway and footways, facilitating what was believed to be the fastest residential build in Europe at the time. Our strategic approach enabled the delivery of an impressive 16 homes per week on average, with a peak of 20 handovers, across three distinct sites. The scope of works encompassed earthworks, utility installations, Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS), adoptable drainage and roadworks, Section 278 junction improvements, and comprehensive landscaping, lighting, and signage installations.

Selected as a proven partner due to our previous successful delivery of large-scale projects, we executed this project despite its location 150 miles from our Midlands base. The programme's complexity was heightened by archaeological findings, including Anglo-Saxon burials, and the risk of unexploded ordnance. Nevertheless, we maintained programme integrity and exceeded client Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), particularly on plot handovers, through an efficient workforce of over 200 operatives at peak. Health and safety was paramount, achieving Zero Harm despite the fast-paced programme and extensive person-hours involved.

The project showcased our team’s ability to manage challenging logistics and adopt innovative methods. By prioritising pre-construction activities and leveraging off-site manufacturing, we minimised lead times and streamlined on-site operations. When faced with the Covid-19 pandemic, we swiftly adapted with revised working methodologies, enhanced welfare provisions, and rigorous health monitoring protocols to safeguard our workforce while maintaining productivity. These adjustments demonstrated our agility and commitment to delivering on time without compromising safety or quality.

Beyond project delivery, we embraced our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments, contributing to the local community and client initiatives. Our efforts included employing and training apprentices from the area, donating to foodbanks, supporting the refurbishment of a memorial garden, and actively participating in fundraising for "Help for Heroes." These actions underlined our dedication to making a positive, lasting impact both within and beyond the project’s scope.
