KEY PROJECT ELEMENTS

Chasetown Civil Engineering was awarded a £2.89m contract by Nurton Developments to deliver earthworks, roads, and sewers for 500m of roadway. The infrastructure was crucial for public access to a new primary school that was under construction and a future 2,000-home development, with Chasetown opening the road ahead of schedule for school opening. The scope included deep sewer construction, road and footpath development, stormwater management, and coordination with multiple stakeholders to maintain access throughout the works.

The project presented unique challenges, including sewer construction at depths of up to 6m within a high water table, requiring de-watering operations and sheet piling. Chasetown also managed complex connections to Severn Trent Water assets at full flow, necessitating over-pumping at significant depths. Sustainability was a priority, with silent pumps and gully bags deployed to reduce environmental impact, along with recycled materials used for road capping. Collaboration with adjacent contractors and residents was critical, ensuring smooth interfaces and minimal disruption throughout the programme.

Health and safety were paramount, with Chasetown achieving Zero Harm and ensuring rigorous daily safety reporting. The team’s expertise in managing challenging ground conditions, utilities coordination, and stakeholder communication ensured all elements of the project were delivered to the highest standards. Innovations such as Easi-Bases for manhole construction and expanding foam for jointing supported efficient and high-quality delivery. Chasetown demonstrated their collaborative approach, adapting methodology and accelerating phases of works to mitigate potential delays to meet key milestones.

The project demonstrated Chasetown Civil Engineering’s ability to deliver under pressure while maintaining quality, sustainability, and safety. From seamless coordination with the school construction to innovative problem-solving during drainage installations, the team showcased their expertise in complex infrastructure projects. This successful delivery reinforces Chasetown’s reputation as a trusted partner for high-stakes, community-focused developments.
