KEY PROJECT ELEMENTS

Chasetown Civil Engineering were appointed as Principal Contractor for the reconfiguration of The Nook, a busy five-arm roundabout in the heart of Anstey town centre. Surrounded by retail frontages and experiencing heavy traffic and pedestrian flows, the project aimed to improve road and footway alignment to enhance safety, ease congestion, and provide better access for all users. These works also acted as enabling infrastructure for a forthcoming residential development on Cropston Road. The scope included extensive resurfacing, new drainage and kerbing, splitter island installations, footway upgrades with tactile paving, and the integration of new street furniture and traffic signals – all executed within a live town centre environment.

Safe and Timely Delivery

Chasetown delivered the entire project within a tight 12-week programme, achieving zero harm and an incident-free record. Through a well-developed traffic and pedestrian management strategy, all five approach roads and The Nook itself remained operational throughout construction. Temporary traffic signals were only deployed at night to minimise disruption, and twilight working hours were used to carry out sensitive operations outside of business opening times.

Stakeholder Engagement and Community Focus

A proactive and structured stakeholder engagement approach was key to the project's success. Chasetown liaised closely with local businesses to maintain uninterrupted access, using detailed weekly plans, milestone updates, and a phased construction sequence that followed a clockwise rotation around The Nook. This ensured clarity, consistency, and minimal disruption to retailers, residents, and deliveries alike.

Long Term Value and Future Works

The project not only met all technical and aesthetic expectations, but also led to further work being awarded to Chasetown due to the quality of delivery. This included major Section 278 works such as a £400k traffic island, a £1.7m roundabout on Cropston Road, and £6m of infrastructure delivery for the new Bloor Homes residential scheme. The success at The Nook stands as a benchmark in collaborative, high-quality town centre highway reconfiguration.
