KEY PROJECT ELEMENTS
Chasetown Civil Engineering were appointed to deliver the full highways and public realm package at the Charles Drive residential estate in Wolverhampton. The development involved the transformation of a 24,000m² greenfield site into a vibrant, accessible and attractive environment for future residents. Works included extensive infrastructure delivery—from deep drainage and concrete culverts to highways and hard landscaping—culminating in beautifully paved public areas using high-spec Tobermore finishes. A key feature of the scheme was the seamless integration of aesthetics and functionality, including bespoke feature paving, tree pits, and sustainable drainage solutions.
Seamless Delivery in a Live Residential Environment
Despite the complexities of constructing in parallel with a live housing development, the project was delivered incident-free and ahead of critical milestones. Chasetown maintained constant access for pedestrians and traffic, carefully managing logistics and re-phasing works to suit evolving constraints. As nearby plots became occupied, dust and vibration were proactively monitored to safeguard residents, while quiet, considerate working methods were adopted to minimise disruption.
High-Quality Urban Design and Engineering
A hallmark of the Charles Drive project was its commitment to high-spec public realm design. The team installed over 9,500m² of highways, footways, and driveways using Tobermore Hydropave, Tegular, and Country Edgings, complete with granite conservation paving at zero-face highway edges. Coloured block demarcation between pedestrian and vehicular zones enhanced both safety and visual appeal. Over 100 tree pits and wooden bollards added structure and greenery, and all public areas were finished to an adoptable standard for local authority approval.
End-to-End Infrastructure Expertise
From initial enabling works to plot finishing, Chasetown managed every element of delivery. Key infrastructure included over 1,200 metres of foul and storm sewers, 23 storm chambers, 10 manholes, 214m of concrete culvert, and a 400m³ cellular stormwater storage system. Plot-level works included piling mats, scaffold platforms, drainage, and domestic services—all completed in tandem with main site works to streamline programme efficiency and ensure seamless handover.
